Laura leads social media strategy for American Express OPEN, the company’s small business division. For the past two years, Laura has played a critical role in elevating the OPEN brand by developing the strategy and implementing the launch of OPEN’s social communities on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Using her passion for community-based marketing, Laura and her team support OPEN’s mission of helping small businesses do more business through a number of innovative social programs like Big Break for Small Business, the first ever B2B partnership with Facebook, aimed to teach business owners how to run their business using social media. Under her leadership, the first annual Small Business Saturday launched in 2010 and expanded in year 2 with an in-depth set digital resources for small businesses including the “Merchant Toolkit”, and partnerships with FedEx, Verizon and other companies. Through her efforts, Laura was integral in mobilizing more than 100 million consumers to “shop small” on Small Business Saturday. Laura has been a valuable member of the American Express marketing team since 1999. Prior to her work with American Express, Laura honed her finance acumen working at Goldman Sachs. She also took off 2 years from American Express, in 2006 – 2007, and joined the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker as a professional poker player. She also holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.
