Former Chairman, President and CEO

Peyton R. Patterson is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of NewAlliance Bancshares, the holding company for NewAlliance Bank which is headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut. Ms. Patterson joined the former New Haven Savings Bank in 2002 as Chairman, President and CEO. The following year, the Bank announced the simultaneous purchase of two Connecticut banks, Connecticut Bancshares (Savings Bank of Manchester) and Alliance Bancorp (Tolland Bank), as New Haven Savings converted to a publicly held institution. The combination of the three community banks in April 2004 then became NewAlliance Bank. The Initial Public Offering (IPO) raised over $1 billion and was the largest in U.S. banking history. As part of the IPO, NewAlliance also demonstrated its commitment to the communities it serves by contributing $40 million in NewAlliance stock to create the NewAlliance Foundation. NewAlliance is the 3rd largest bank headquartered in Connecticut and 4th largest headquartered in New England. As of December 31, 2009, the bank has $8.43 billion in assets and 87 branches in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Ms. Patterson has over 25 years of commercial and thrift banking experience with Dime Bancorp, JP Morgan Chase in New York and Corestates Financial in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2008, Ms. Patterson was named Community Banker of the Year by American Banker. In 2006, U.S. Banker Magazine named her as one of the top 10 Banking CEO’s nationwide. In 2004 and 2005, Ms. Patterson was named the 2nd Most Powerful Woman in Banking. Ms. Patterson received an A.B. Degree in Political Science from Kenyon College in 1978 and an MBA in Marketing from George Washington University in 1983. She serves on the Boards of the Consumer Bankers Association, The Greater New York United Way and is on the Executive Committee of Yale New Haven Hospital.Ms. Patterson grew up in Washington D.C where her mother worked for the State Department. She currently resides in Madison, Connecticut with her daughter, Kathleen.
