Robert Powell is president and founder of Unison, LLC, a Swampscott, Mass.-based financial education, communications and consulting firm. He is the editor of Retirement Weekly, a Marketwatch-Dow Jones subscription publication and he writes two columns for MarketWatch.com, including On Retirement and Your Portfolio.Powell serves as the editor of the Retirement Management Journal and as an adjunct professor for the Boston University Center for Professional Education Online Retirement Management Analyst Program.He recently served as the Examination Workbook Editor for the Retirement Income Industry Association’s Retirement Management Analyst(sm) and as a lecturer at the Boston University-Financial Planning Association Lifecycle Investing for Financial Planners program. He also served as a content strategist to the Financial Planning Association, having played a key role in the development and launch of its Virtual Learning Center, Research Center and its public-facing website.Powell has also served as executive producer of "More Than Money," a personal finance television series in development from Connecticut Public Television & Radio and “The Truth About Retirement,” another television program in development from Connecticut Public Television and Radio. He was the co-author of “Decoding Wall Street,” an investment primer published by McGraw-Hill, and author "20 Tips for Retirement Investors,” published by MarketWatch.com.Powell formerly served as Managing Director at Acadient, where he was responsible for the Boston University Online Program for Financial Planners, a CFP® registered program, the Center for Fiduciary Studies' Accredited Investment Fiduciary™ Web-based Program, and the Lightbulb Press' 401(k) Basics Program. Previously, Robert served as director of marketing, training and education for FundQuest, an investment management firm, and president of FinStream.com, an online financial education company.From 1993 to 2000, he served as Managing Director and editor-in-chief of Boston-based DALBAR, Inc. where he was responsible for all aspects of the firm's multi-million dollar publishing company: Mutual Fund Market News, Variable Annuity Market News, The Journal of Mutual Fund Services, Registered Investment Advisor, Visionaries, and “Advice, Trust & Money.” Powell played a lead role in creating and developing CompuServe WOW!'s personal finance and business website, and TheRightAdviser, a joint venture between DALBAR and Microsoft Corp.'s MoneyCentral that enabled consumers to search for and select a financial advisor.Prior to joining DALBAR, Powell served for five years as personal finance and mutual funds columnist for The Boston Herald where he created "The Money Manager" column and co-wrote "On State Street." He has also served as a business reporter for the Berkshire Eagle and Boston Business Journal.Powell has extensive internet, broadcast, print and radio experience: His work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, The Boston Globe, and Your Money. He has served as host or co-host of several television, radio and internet chat programs, including Consumer Portfolio on Boston Cablevision, Talk of New England on New England Cable News, The Money Manager on WMEX-AM Boston, and FundWire on AmericaOnline.Before becoming a financial journalist, Powell worked as a registered representative for DeanWitterReynolds. Powell was graduated with a bachelor's degree from Marquette University and a master's degree in journalism from Boston University College of Communication\/ School of Management.)
