Tim Bray

Tim Bray is CTO of Antarcti.ca Systems and a 20-year veteran of the software industry. Bray is widely recognized as an expert in the problems of searching and retrieving information from large textual databases. In 1987, he managed the New Oxford English Dictionary Project at the University of Waterloo, charged with developing an indexing technology that put the contents of the Oxford English Dictionary online and make it searchable. In 1989, Bray co-founded the Open Text Corporation where he developed high-performance text retrieval software and in 1994 introduced what would become one of the first commercial Web search engines. In 1998, he co-invented extensible markup language (XML). He can be reached at twbray@antarcti.ca.
