Oracle’s NetSuite helps Fisher Unitech recognize outstanding workers

Employee recognition is a motivator for around 100 workers at 3D printing supplies company Fisher Unitech, yet the Troy, Michigan-based company didn’t have a proper vehicle with which to engage its workforce.

That’s why the company brought on Oracle NetSuite, a SaaS- and cloud-based HCM system, to deliver dynamic functions such as the Kudos module, which allows employees to pay compliments — or kudos — to their colleagues.

An employer like Fisher Unitech can personalize the Kudos module to include company values, which then allows employees to “assign a culture value to a coworker,” says Patrick Scally, director of human resources at Fisher Unitech.

An employee’s manager is notified when kudos are given; the accolades are taken into consideration when it’s time for a promotion or a raise. Employees who receive kudos also are entered to win a $25 gift card at the end of each month, which further incentivizes the practice.

“They have a lot of salespeople who are outside of the office,” says Jonathan D’Sa, senior manager at SuitePeople Center of Excellence. “They’re always recognizing each other.”

“It’s a big part of our culture, giving kudos,” Scally adds.

Beyond emphasizing company culture, NetSuite streamlines various HR functions for Scally.

Prior to implementation, Fisher Unitech received emailed vacation requests and tracked them manually, Scally says. Its org chart, which shows the chain of command within the company, was also manually drawn.

The company used NetSuite’s beta version before implementing the HCM system, which includes a dynamic org chart and employee directory along with modules for payroll, time tracking and giving kudos, Scally says. Fisher Unitech is beginning to use NetSuite for job requisition as well.

Scally emphasized that with some help from IT, he was able to set up the system module by module and implement it himself.

NetSuite says its mobile- and desktop-enabled product, which is structured under a per employee per month model, is targeted at employers with 1,000 employees or fewer in industries like services and manufacturing.
