Much to the credit of the Affordable Care Act, the uninsured rate for all Americans dipped to a historic low of 8.6% in the first three months of 2016, according to the National Health Interview Survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, the uninsured rate is back on the rise in 2017 and continues to vary dramatically across states, new research finds.

Keeping an eye on local insurance rates can be beneficial for employers looking to control healthcare costs, as individual markets can have a bearing on the costs employers pay for their plans.

Using U.S. Census data, financial site WalletHub has analyzed and compared the insured rate of Americans in 2010 and 2016. According to their data, these 10 states have the worst insured rates in the country.
