5 HR technology trends to watch

Technology is reshaping HR strategies and further advances are going to provide more natural and immersive interactions between HR and technology, according to Gartner. In particular, the research house identified these five trends.

1. Blockchain

Blockchain technology provides a decentralized and secure ledger that gives participating parties a way to validate information related to a transaction. One HR area blockchain can be implemented is in payroll, particularly in a global organization.

For example, long-term inefficiencies of overseas payroll payments can add up. Currency volatility could have an immediate effect on both employers and employees. Hourly changes in exchange rates are routinely taken advantage of by intermediaries. An international payroll blockchain solution may offer a faster solution than existing models.

2. AI

Technology vendors are further refining systems that learn, adapt and act more autonomously. Gartner reports that AI will be used to improve HR’s decision-making, reinvent work processes and revamp the customer experience.

3. Intelligent apps and analytics

Companies are using AI practices to further new app categories, such as virtual customer assistants and bots to improve employee performance, sales and marketing analysis and security. Intelligent apps have the potential to change the nature of work and the structure of the workplace.

4. ‘Digital twins’

Digital twins are digital representation of real-world entities or systems (think computer models). They are linked to their real-world counterparts and are used to understand the state of the thing or system, respond to changes, improve operations and add value. Employers can implement digital twins simply at first, then evolve them over time and improve their ability to collect and visualize the right data, apply the right analytics and rules, and respond effectively to business objectives. Digital twins could significantly improve HR decision-making by helping users respond to changes, improving operations and enhancing performance.

5. Conversational platforms

Conversational platforms— think Siri or Alexa—are programs that can be applied within HR to improve employee self-service by enabling employees to "speak with" members of your team. These tools will drive the next big shift in how humans interact with the digital world.
