Benefit pros on the move: HUB, Lockton, Mercer and more make key appointments

U.S. benefit brokerages, advisory firms and other benefit service companies took major steps recently to fill important roles.

It was a busy month for filling executive offices inside benefit provider and retirement management firms. Both HUB International and pharmacy benefit solution provider RxTE Health promoted their current presidents to the role of CEO. Both CEOs will keep their president titles. Retirement plan manager Great-West Investments hired a seasoned buyside investor to oversee its $100 billion unit that makes investments for retirement accounts.

Mercer continued to add new faces to its employee benefit roster with a new principal, client management for its Chicago office and a new practice leader, health for its Cincinnati office. In other Midwest news, Lockton has a new unit manager to its St. Louis office. Meanwhile, Alera Group appointed a new VP of human resources and organization development, and Alliant Employee Benefits added a life and disability veteran to its ranks.

Autullo named unit manager in Lockton St. Louis office

A 12-year veteran of Lockton, Lora Autullo has been promoted to the role of unit manager for Lockton’s St. Louis office. In her new role, she will work with clients, and lead associates in their career development. Prior to becoming unit manager, Autullo served as an account executive and team lead where she was the primary point of contact for clients, managed strategic planning and assisted with their day-to-day needs while leading a small group of associates.

Marc Cohen

HUB International names Cohen as CEO

Marc Cohen has been named as the new chief executive officer of global insurance brokerage Hub International, where he is currently president. He will retain the president title when he starts this new role on January 1 and he will also be a member of the firm’s board of directors. Martin P. Hughes will continue to serve as executive chairman of HUB. In his new roles, Cohen will be responsible for financial strategy, including directing organic sales and M&A activity. He was named president of HUB last January.

Alliant Employee Benefits adds life and disability veteran Dale
Alliant Employee Benefits, a division of Alliant Insurance Services, has tapped Alan Dale to the role of first vice president for the insurer’s life and disability practice in Dallas. Dale will be a lead consultant and will provide consulting support to Alliant’s absence management practice. Prior to joining Alliant, Dale spent 12 years as a principal for Mercer as its central region leader of its life, disability and absence management practice. Before that, he served as vice president of ULR/QDR and account consultant for Cigna.

Dant Joins Mercer’s Cincinnati Office as Practice Leader, Health

Global consultancy Mercer has appointed Anna Dant as practice leader for Mercer’s Health Business. She will lead Mercer’s Cincinnati team in its health & benefit consulting and broking efforts. Dant will report to Andrew Rosenberg, Health & Benefits Office Business Leader for Indiana and Ohio. Prior to joining Mercer, Dant served with Aetna as vice president, client management and before that served as a senior consultant at Willis Towers Watson for more than a decade. nefitadviser.

Alera Group appoints Doucette as VP of human resources and organization development

Bill Doucette has been appointed to the role of vice president of human resources and organization Development for Alera Group. Doucette will focus on uniting the best practices of the employee benefits provider firms in the areas of human resources, talent management and organization effectiveness. He is tasked with implementing “unique human resources programs and policies” that support Alera Group, according to a press statement. Doucette has more than 30 years of experience in the HR field. Before joining Alera, he served as vice president of human resources at NES Rentals Holdings and he has a Ph.D. in Organization Development from Benedictine University.

Mercer names Griffin principal, client management of Chicago office

Mercer has appointed Maggie Griffin to the role of principal, client management of its Chicago office. Her new responsibilities include managing Chicago clients and she will report to Beth Kirk Malecki, partner and Chicago office leader. Prior to joining Mercer, Griffin served as an enterprise relationship manager at LinkedIn. She worked at Mercer in Chicago where she focused on business development in Information Solutions.

RxTE Health promotes Henka to CEO role

Pharmacy benefit solution provider RxTE Health has promoted President David Henka to the position of chief executive officer. As CEO, Henka will drive the strategic vision of the company and oversee product and business development, sales and marketing initiatives and financial operations. Henka will continue to serve as president, a position he has held since joining the company in May 2017. Henka also served as the company’s COO. Prior to joining RxTE, he served as director of the Reta Trust, a nonprofit Catholic employer healthcare trust, and was a director at Kaiser Permanente.

Great-West Investments appoints Sipple as its new president

Great-West Financial has appointed Scott C. Sipple to the role of president of Great-West Investments, the $100 billion unit that makes investments for retirement accounts. His remit will be to provide leadership of the firm’s efforts to identify, create and deliver investment, retirement income and advice solutions for the retirement market. Sipple joins Great-West from Putnam Investments in Boston, where he served as head of global Investment Strategies. He has worked in the investment industry since 1985 and joined Putnam in 2009.
