New adviser moves

As the winter recedes, hiring and promotions started to warm up inside employee benefit brokerages and the firms that support them.

Benefit brokerage OneAmerica hired three salespeople to bolster its offices in the midwest and the south. AHIP announced that its president and CEO will step down and promote its COO to her role. Retirement account firm intellicents added a salesman and HSA provider SaveDaily named a new CEO.

HealthJoy names Aaron as COO

Employee benefits and healthcare platform provider HealthJoy has named Brad Aaron to the role of chief operating officer. Aaron has 20 years of experience in the technology, healthcare, and SaaS space and most recently served as COO of MethodCare. In 2009, he worked for Allscripts Healthcare Solutions where he managed Allscripts’ $1.3B acquisition of Eclipsys.

Eyles named president, CEO of AHIP

After what it calls “a thorough search and thoughtful succession planning process,” the board of directors for America’s Health Insurance Plans voted unanimously to appoint Matt Eyles as the consortium’s new president and CEO of AHIP. He will succeed Marilyn Tavenner, who is retiring on June 1. Eyles has led AHIP’s policy work as executive vice president since 2015 and was promoted to COO in 2017.

Madl Joins intellicents in Kansas City

The Kansas City office of intellicents has added Nick Madl to expand its fee-based wealth management and financial planning services. intellicents provides 401(k) fiduciary investment advisory services to local employers and their participants. Prior to joining the firm, Madl spent two years with Charles Schwab followed by five years at American Century Investments where he earned his Certified Financial Planner designation.

OneAmerica adds Plantz to sales and service team

OneAmerica has added three new sales positions to support its increasing growth in key employee benefits markets in the Midwest and mid-South. The first is Ryan Plantz. He will serve as a senior sales representative, based in Atlanta, Ga. Plantz comes to OneAmerica from Sun Life Financial, where he focused on national account sales of groups with more than 2,000 employees. Previously, he worked at Lincoln Financial Group for more than seven years selling to groups of all sizes in Georgia and Alabama.

Renna named sales director of NVA

National Vision Administrators has appointed Rick Renna as sales director. With 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, Renna will report directly to NVA President, Dave Karlin. His territory will encompass Northern New Jersey, Connecticut and New York and he’ll work with brokers and plan sponsors to promote eye care benefits.

Rogers signs on to OneAmerica

OneAmerica has hired Joann Rogers as senior account manager for its Chicago office. She brings 25 years of service in employee benefits to the brokerage. Her experience includes Sun Life, where she worked most of her career, as well as Mutual of Omaha where she was awarded the Employee Benefits Service Award. Most recently, she worked for a national employee benefits brokerage reinforcing her perspective on effective broker-centric service.

SaveDaily names Smith as CEO

HSA solution provider SaveDaily has named Stan L Smith as its new CEO. He will be in charge of growing the paperless brokerage’s client base. Smith has more than 17 years of experience as a senior executive and most recently serving as vice president, senior relationships manager at Fidelity Investments.

Sokol joins OneAmerica’s Motor City team

Mike Sokol has signed on as senior regional manager of OneAmerica’s Detroit office. A resident of Bloomfield, Mich., he has 15 years of industry experience in the ancillary market. Most recently, Sokol worked for Reliance Standard.

Tavenner to retire from AHIP June 1

Marilyn Tavenner will step down from AHIP’s role as president and CEO at the beginning of June. Matt Eyles will take her position. Prior to joining the health insurer trade association, she served as administrator and principal deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from 2010 to 2015. From 2006 until 2010, she served as in the cabinet of Virgina Governor Tim Kaine’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources.

BenefitMall names Waletzki president of the payroll division

Benefit and payroll technology provider BenefitMall has promoted Todd Waletzki to the newly created position of president of its payroll division. Formerly the division’s COO, Waletzki will oversee the growth and strategy for the division with direct accountability for all sales and operations of payroll products. Prior to joining BenefitMall in 2015, Waletzki served as the managing vice president of US Card Operations for CapitalOne and COO of CompuPay.
