Hollywood stereotypes can mislead jobseekers into what they think could be a high-profile, glamourous career. But for many, a competitive field or poor outlook could change perceptions, putting a real challenge on HR to attract talent for those jobs.

The most overrated jobs of 2016

For HR professionals, getting a job description written just right can be tough. Many professions may be overhyped due to stereotypes or misconceptions on what the job really does. The following jobs are CareerCast’s most overrated for 2016, based on compensation, stress levels and satisfaction of those who hold them. While all are great careers, CareerCast advices entering these occupations for the right reasons and to be aware of the stress, competition, industry volatility and high job turnover.

For example, says CareerCast’s online content editor Kyle Kensing, “the idea of becoming an advertising account executive and schmoozing clients over bourbon and steaks seems exciting but it’s a far cry from reality.”
