New adviser moves

The people moves that started the year have continued into the winter months.

Insurance giant MetLife named a new head of its benefits business and chip-maker Intel named a new chief human resource officer. Mercer, the adviser firm that never seems to stop hiring satffers for its midwest offices, added a new adviser to its Milwaukee office and CBIZ announced that two female employees have joined leading boards of directors. One broker kept his job at his own firm but will consult with Q4Inteligence and Medical Risk Managers named a new president. Meanwhile, Bolton & Co. named a new associate vice president and RxTE health appointed an executive chairman of the board.

Q4intelligence adds Contorno as Agency Coach

David Contorno, a partner at Lake Norman Benefits, has joined the coaching and advising team of Q4intelligence, a sales team that helps benefit adviser firms grow their client list. Contorno is a member of the Q4iNetwork and as an agency coach, he will help expand its group health insurance and employee benefit strategies. He will remain in his role as a partner at Lake Norman Benefits, a member of the Hilb Group, where he helps employers in his own practice.

Gonzalez joins Bolton & Co. as associate vice president

Independent insurance broker Bolton & Co. has added Guillermo Gonzalez Jr. as a new associate vice president in its employee benefits ranks. Gonzalez spent seven years at Arroyo Insurance where he focused on serving nonprofits while leading a client services team and implementing strategies, benefits programs, talent retention plans, culture change initiatives and training that strengthen companies.

Khoja named president of Medical Risk Managers

Medical Risk Managers, a managing general underwriting and consulting firm specializing in medical stop-loss insurance, has named Mehb Khoja as its new president. He will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the South Windsor, Connecticut-based company where he succeeds Thomas Doran, who departed MRM last year. Mehb joined MRM from Milliman in Chicago, where he focused on the growth of Milliman’s stop-loss management and employee benefits businesses. Prior to Milliman, Khoja spent 13 years with Mercer Health and Benefits as a principal and actuary.

CBIZ’s Mellard named to CIAB board of directors

Nancy Mellard, executive vice president and general counsel of CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services Division, has been named Secretary to the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers Board of Directors. Mellard has served on the CIAB board since 2011 and was appointed secretary in October 2017. Since joining CBIZ in 1991, she has responsibility for legal matters, negotiating contracts with merger and acquisition candidates, key customers, insurance carriers and employment related agreements; and managing litigation and E&O issues.

Peed appointed to Risk Management Society’s board of directors

CBIZ’s Director of Corporate Risk management Kristen Peed has been appointed to the board of directors for the Risk Management Society. RMS is a non-profit organization that represents more than 3,500 organizations throughout the world as it advocates for the global risk community. Peed will serve for a three-year term alongside other leaders from widely recognized companies. Peed joined CBIZ in 2015 and is responsible for placement of the corporate insurance programs and claims management, as well as implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

MetLife names Reid head of global employee benefits

MetLife has named Executive Vice President James Reid as head of its global employee benefits business. He will be responsible for accelerating GEB’s growth by partnering with MetLife’s regional offices and expanding relationships with financial institutions and global employee benefit brokers and consultants. Reid joined MetLife in 2012 and has more than 25 years of experience in health and employee benefits, and P&L ownership. He has held a number of leadership roles within MetLife’s U.S. Group Benefits organization, most recently overseeing Regional and Small Business Solutions.

Ryan joins Mercer’s Milwaukee office

Mercer has added Daniel Ryan to its Milwaukee office in the role of senior client manager. Ryan’s responsibilities include managing and advising a portfolio of clients. He will report to Beth Kirk Malecki, partner and leader of Mercer’s Chicago office. Prior to joining Mercer, Ryan was a director at Northwestern Mutual for more than five years.

Intel promotes Smith as chief HR officer

Matthew M. Smith was promoted to senior vice president and chief human resource officer from corporate vice president of human resources for Intel. As CHRO, Smith will join Intel’s management committee and lead the global HR team responsible for developing and executing HR strategies in support of Intel’s businesses. Smith joined Intel in 1997.

RxTE Health appoints Teckman as executive chairman of the board

Pharmacy price reduction specialist RxTE Health has appointed Dave Teckman as executive chairman of the board. In this role, Teckman will oversee business development, sales, marketing, and operational activities. Prior to joining RxTE, Teckman was the Executive Vice President of marketing and sales for Advanced Infusion Solutions and before that, Teckman was president and CEO at PharmaGenoma, Sutura, and Vivius.
