States with the highest cost of health insurance

In 2014, the average cost of health insurance per employee was $9,504 — the average cost to employers was $6,276 and employees paid an average of $3,228, according to the 2014 United Benefit Advisors Health Plan Survey.

Four of the top five states with the most expensive employer-sponsored health insurance costs are located on the East Coast, according to the survey, which received responses from 9,950 employers sponsoring 16,967 health plans nationwide.
