(Bloomberg) People who waited until the last minute to sign up for Obamacare were significantly younger than those first in line, as the percentage of enrollees younger than 35 jumped in the last month, officials said. President Barack Obama also said Thursday that 8 million people have now enrolled in private insurance plans through the public exchanges as data continues to trickle in following the March 31 open enrollment deadline.
About 35% of Americans who signed up for a private plan using new insurance exchanges were in the young adult age group, state insurance commissioners said after a meeting with President Barack Obama and his top staff. Thats a four percentage point rise since March 1, when the government reported than 31% were under age 35.
