Preventative cancer care saves lives and reduces medical costs, but it’s not always convenient, especially for employees with unique schedules outside the traditional nine-to-five.
Blue collar workers in industries such as trucking and warehouse and supply can find it challenging to make time for cancer screenings and other types of care because of the amount of time they spend on the road or the timing of their shifts. But the need for diligence in overall preventative care is especially important for this population: Studies show truck drivers are at higher risk for certain cancers, such as lung and prostate, the latter being the cause of death for an estimated 35,000 men in 2024, according to the American Cancer Society.
