President Donald Trump unveiled a federal plan offering government-backed retirement accounts with a $1,000 annual match for workers without employer-sponsored plans.
The House approved a three-year extension of ACA tax credits as some GOP lawmakers broke ranks, aiming to push the Senate toward a bipartisan deal.
Companies with 10 or more workers would have to contribute at least 50 cents per hour worked to each employee's retirement account.
Overcoming holdouts for a 219-213 victory, the bill now advances toward a final vote.
At least 13.7 million people would lose health insurance by 2034 as a result of the bill.
