While providing a healthy work-life balance to the workforce is a universal challenge, there are some states that are doing it better than others.

A recent study by tech company Hostinger set out to evaluate each state's work-life balance by comparing working hours, occupational stress levels, current living wage, average salary and retirement savings guidelines. Each state was then assigned a score out of ten based on how they performed across each metric.

"While Americans will no doubt consider a variety of factors when deciding where to work, these often focus more on ROI — like salary and benefits — rather than their day-to-day wellbeing," Emma Young, content manager at Hostinger, said in the release. "This can leave many workers taking on high-intensity jobs that do improve their long-term financial burden and prospects, but that also make their day-to-day lives more stressful than they need to be.."

New Hampshire took the top spot as the best place for work-life harmony by scoring an impressive 8.6 out of 10. The state performed particularly well for annual salary, occupational stress and the average hours spent at work each week, and also ranked highly for how far the typical salary goes compared to the current cost of living:  Workers currently make more than double the living wage of $36,000, meaning they're less likely to need a second job to make ends meet.

Joining New Hampshire is Utah, which scored 8.2 out of 10, Minnesota, which is the most low-stress state, and Alaska, in which workers make the most for every hour they spend at work in a year. The state that performed the poorest is Louisiana, mostly due to low average salary
