News You Can Use: New financial planning designation available

Math was never my subject in school – as evidenced by my chosen career – but I think given the economic conditions we’re living in, it wouldn’t hurt any of us to at least consider joining up with The American College to pursue its new Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation.

With a nine-course requirement, “the ChFC is the most comprehensive educational program available for individuals seeking to be knowledgeable and ethical financial professionals,” says Michael C. Davidson, CLU®, vice chair and chief agency and marketing officer of State Farm Life Insurance Company in Bloomington, Ill.

According to Larry Barton, president and CEO of The American College, the new designation includes “a capstone case study course that incorporates complicated aspects of savings, estate planning, taxation and business planning to ensure that those providing financial advice can apply new insights that have emerged in recent years.”

So, who’s interested? Even if not for yourself, it’s worth getting more information on – especially if you plan to give such professionals access to your employees to assist them in financial planning. You’ll want to be sure they have the right training and expertise to get your money’s worth.
