Benefits Think

To everything, there is a season

As us EBNers work on our annual “Preparing for Open Enrollment” series, some of this year’s contributors have told us that when it comes to wellness, open enrollment actually isn’t the best time to launch a new initiative.

Rather, they said, it’s best to rollout a wellness program independently and then promote it year-round — including during open enrollment.

So, I ask you: When is the best time to launch a new wellness program? During open enrollment season or separately?

And if separately, is there a particular time you think is best? January, when new year’s resolutions are fresh? The spring and summer months, when employees are more likely to be willing to get outside and exercise? Or, the fall, which coincides with several major health-related awareness campaigns — like Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, and the Great American Smokeout and American Diabetes Month in November?

To everything (turn, turn, turn) there is a season. But what season is best for wellness? Share your thoughts in the comments.
