Between return-to-work mandates and dwindling buying power, many employees may feel overworked and under-rewarded. Luckily, some companies are still finding ways to prioritize work-life balance and flexibility.

Remote jobs search platform Flexjobs put together a list of 40 companies that not only boast remote opportunities, but offer or plan to offer four-day workweek policies. Given the recent surge of companies requiring employees in the office, this may seem too good to be true — and yet, Flexjobs found an 11% increase in the number of remote job posts in 2023, hinting that remote work isn't going anywhere. And while the coveted three-day weekend may still be a rare offering, it looks like more companies are recognizing that employees need rest in order to be productive, observes Toni Frana, career expert at Flexjobs.

"Working a four-day workweek can allow people a full day each week to complete medical appointments, various errands, volunteer for a cause that is important to them and even have time to have coffee with a friend," she says. "Having this space in your week to do things outside of work has a positive effect on mental health and personal relationships, and eliminates the stress many feel when trying to fit everything in during a traditional five-day workweek."

A remote work structure and a four-day workweek policy may be the perfect recipe for work-life balance, allowing employees to have more agency over how they complete their personal and professional tasks each week. As for employers, these policies may serve as an attraction and retention strategy and increase employee wellness.

Want a sneak peek at which companies are daring to offer this much flexibility? Here are 15 remote companies with four-day workweek policies.
