Evolving inclusiveness: Companies extend medical benefits to transgendered employees

This time, it’s the news that, according to the Human Rights Campaign, 39% of Fortune 500 companies now offer transgendered employees and/or dependents helath benefits to cover medical costs associated with gender reassignment surgery, up from 1% in 2004.

Not only is that a huge leap, it shows some very open-minded thinking is going on in your departments and company C-suites.

Amidst all the federal and state insurance mandates, it must be nice to do something “just because.”

Let me know what you think. Does your company offer health benefits to transgendered employees? Do you have plans to do so? Is there a mandate to do so in your state/locality? Share your thoughts in the comments.
