IRS to do more research on small business

The Internal Revenue Service needs to conduct more research to identify the needs and preferences of small business and self-employed taxpayers, according to a new government report.

The report, by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, acknowledged that the IRS already is taking some steps to improve customer service for these groups, but TIGTA believes that more research could be helpful in closing the estimated $345 billion tax gap.
