Human resource professionals find themselves with a wealth of software to help them recruit, onboard, train and manage employees. What follows are some of application categories Employee Benefit News has been watching and, within each, some of the products that have caught the editors’ eyes.

Applicant tracking software

Applicant tracking software helps HR departments handle the recruitment process by posting, storing and then, based on an employer’s criteria, sorting resumes to find appropriate job candidates. ApplicantPro, PrecedentHR, Interviewed, Cangrade and JazzHR are among the companies offering ATS packages.

Digital talent management tools

Talent management software is used to assist HR in four critical areas: recruitment, performance management, learning and development and compensation management. Vendors including Centranum Systems, Greenhouse Software, PerformYard, Reviewsnap and Saba offer such software.

Employee self-service systems

Employee self-service software allows workers to take care of many human resource- and job-related tasks that would otherwise fall to HR personnel or management. Many of these systems allow employees to change and update personal information such as home addresses and contact information; others allow employees to view scheduling and payroll. Justworks, Sage, Sentric, SutiHR and TrackSmart are some of the software platforms that offer these systems.

HR SaaS

HR software-as-a-service offerings range from payroll applications to talent acquisition and onboarding systems to human-capital management suites. ADP, Ceridian, Oracle, Ultimate Software and Workday are among the vendors offering such systems.

Performance management software

Performance management systems track employees’ progress — from onboarding through the end of their tenure. The systems allow HR to set targets and objectives and then to regularly assess how well workers are progressing. Ascentis, Engagedly,Incentco, Multirater Surveys and Pay Compliment are among the vendors offering such packages.

Succession planning systems

Succession planning systems allow employers to monitor performance and spot employees who are ready for promotion. Built for Teams, Centranum, DeepTalent, PeopleQlik and Vibe HCM are among the vendors offering tools in this space.

Training management software

Training management applications deliver and track employee education programs. With a good system in place, employers more easily run effective learning programs and show documentation of employee-training completion during an audit or inspection. Bridge, Docebo, empXtrack, Lanteria and Litmos are among the vendors offering such software.
