U.S. small-business owners are the most optimistic they’ve been about prospects for their own firms since before the start of the pandemic, a PNC Financial Services Group survey found.

Of those surveyed, 56% said they are upbeat about their company’s trajectory, according to results released Monday by PNC, the nation’s second-largest regional bank by assets. That’s the highest level since 2018 and the second-highest in the history of the survey going back to 2006. The level of pessimism dipped to an all-time low of 2%. More than a third of respondents were positive about the outlook of the national economy.
