Benefits Think Tip of the Day: Get onboard with offboarding

Although the pace and size of layoffs at U.S. companies seems to be easing, employers still are shedding jobs by the thousands. Amid such a difficult economy and job market, some employers are adding to their offboarding procedures — conducting indepth exit interviews and offering benefits consulting for terminated employees.

The reason for the enhancements appears to be twofold, EBN Associate Editor Elizabeth Galentine reports this month in “Parting ways pleasantly.” For one, employers want to cover all their bases to mitigate legal risk, and two, offboarding keeps companies from burning bridges, should they seek to rehire workers once the economy rebounds.
