Allen Plyler is a consultant that primarily focuses on advising on complex transactions and implementations of new accounting guidance for top domestic and international companies. An expert in U.S. GAAP and IFRS accounting policy, he has developed structures and managed projects that in aggregate have required him to analyze more than a trillion dollars in risk positions.Allen was a Vice President at Wells Fargo where he led Wholesale Accounting Policy, and has provided consulting services for Allstate Insurance, Northrup Grumman, Barrick Gold Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and other domestic and international clients. Formerly he was Chief Financial Officer of BALR Corporation, a computer consulting firm where he structured its monetization exit through the capital markets.An example of the complexity of structures Allen works on is the $266 million dollar long-term project financing for Nevada Solar One, a 64 megawatt Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant and largest built in the world in the last 16 years at the time. His financial engineering resulted in the first leveraged lease structured financing for a CSP plant in the U.S.In addition to his consulting expertise, Allen regularly speaks on key topics for national audiences. His 2008 speech on Fair Value was delivered to Financial Executives International and called upon Congress to review fair value assumptions that were exacerbating the financial crisis. He also is an instructor for the California Education Foundation where he teaches courses in U.S. GAAP and IFRS, Hedging Foreign Currency, Cheap Stock and Classification and Measurement.
