Haydn J. Richards, Jr. is the Director of the Firm's Financial Industry�Group and the Leader of its Financial Services Regulatory and Compliance�practice. Mr. Richards advises members of the financial services industry�on state and federal regulatory matters. The focus of his client service�efforts include state compliance and licensing matters pertaining to�mortgage lenders, brokers, servicers and their employees, as well as�compliance and licensing matters pertaining to financial services and realestate settlement service providers. He also counsels various types of�financial service companies regarding CFPB preparedness and�implementation strategies for the CFPB's new regulations.�Mr.Richards is experienced with preparing multistate regulatory surveys�regarding all aspects of regulatory compliance for mortgage companies�and other settlement service providers. He regularly assists clients with�internal and external compliance surveys, facilitates interaction with regulatory agencies and assists with all aspects of state and federal�audits, examinations and enforcement actions.�Mr. Richards has extensive experience with the S.A.F.E. Act, both for�mortgage lenders, brokers and servicers, including third party loan�fulfillment companies, employment agencies and other mortgage industry�participants. He has been deeply involved with the development and�testing of the NMLS and spoke on legal issues pertaining to the system at�a number of the annual NMLS User Conferences. He is a member of the�NMLS Industry Development Working Group (IDWG), a panel of industrymembers that directly advises upon the development and continued�implementation of the NMLS, and the American Association of Residential�Mortgage Regulators (AARMR) Industry Advisory Council.Mr. Richards is a prolific speaker and author on Financial Services topics. His works provide practical insight to lawyers and non-lawyers. Among others, Mr. Richards is the author of the �State and Federal Licensing and the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry� chapter and coauthor of the �Fair Credit Reporting Act� chapter of the Consumer Financial Services Answer Book 2012-2013 (Practising Law Institute). He also authored the �Fair Credit Reporting Act� chapter of the Mortgage Finance Regulation Answer Book 2011-2012 (Practising Law Institute).Prior to private practice, Mr. Richards clerked for the Hon. Diane Gilbert Sypolt of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Richards also served as Executive Managing Editor of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal, from 2001 to 2002.
