�Jan Perry is the General Manager of the Los Angeles Economic andWorkforce Development Department (EWDD). Mayor Garcetti appointedher to the position in 2013. Both Perry and the Mayor share a passion forjob creation and the revitalization of neighborhoods that results inimproving the quality of life for all Angelenos.As General Manager of the Economic and Workforce DevelopmentDepartment, Ms. Perry leads a staff of 175, some in economic developmentcharged with brokering city loans, and bonds. On the workforce side, thedepartment oversees 17 WorkSource centers for adults that offerspecialized training, and career development services. In addition, thedepartment administers 16 YouthSource centers that focus on careerexploration, tutoring and computer skills, college prep and work readinessskills.The EWDD was created in 2013 with a goal to spur business activity thatcreates jobs and a strong tax base. Ms. Perry knows that economicdevelopment and employment stimulates growth in a city and brings aboutmore housing, increased demand for goods and services and flourishingcommunities.Ms. Perry is the former Los Angeles City Councilmember for the 9th District,which included Bunker Hill, Little Tokyo and South Los Angeles. During her12 years in office she oversaw major changes in the district’s infrastructure.This resulted in quality job development and training and the expansion ofhousing in all income levels.Perry earned her bachelor’s degree from the USC School of Journalism,cum laude, and her master’s degree from USC in public administration.
