Benefit pros on the move: New hires inside EPIC, Alera Group, Willis Towers Watson and more

With the summer officially under way, the new hires and promotions inside major employee benefits, insurance and technology firms are heating up as well. Here we look at some of the key roles filled at advisories, benefits admin and consulting firms, and healthcare services providers.
WTW names Abbott as market leader of Northern California
Willis Towers Watson announced the appointment of Fred Abbott as market leader for Northern California. Abbott will be responsible for the brokerage's business operations, client relationships and growth opportunities across the Northern California market. Abbott is a 30 year veteran of WTW and most recently the Northern California team of client relationship directors. Prior to this, he headed the company's Health and Benefits practice.

Amabile to oversee Conduent's Human Resource Services
Insurance technology company Conduent has named Tracy Amabile as vice president and general manager of its Human Resource Services division. She joins Conduent from IBM where she held leadership roles in its HR business services organization and Workday consulting practice. Amabile will lead more than 5,000 employees globally. HRS encompasses such technology tools as BenefitWallet and RightOpt to help clients manage their HR programs.
Blue named president of Alera Group
Insurer and benefit brokerage Alera Group has appointed Jim Blue as president. In his new role, Blue will work with the existing leadership team, and focus on revenue growth and integration of new Alera Group firms. He is the former CEO of Marsh & McLennan Agency New England.
Alera Group appoints Capilla director of compliance, employee benefits
Alera Group has named Danielle Capilla as director of compliance, employee benefits. In her new role, she will focus on Alera Group's compliance capabilities and build new solutions for its employee benefits clients. Capilla was formerly the senior vice president of Compliance and Operations at United Benefit Advisors. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law.
Merritt to step down from PCMA in December
After 15 years at the helm of the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, CEO and president - Mark Merritt - is stepping down, effective at year-end. Under his leadership, PCMA grew from an obscure group into the nation's leading voice on prescription drug benefits, according to a press statement. One of his first missions was to help shape the bill which established the Medicare Part D program in 2003. Since then, Merritt has helped navigate the industry through countless legislative and regulatory debates in Washington, D.C. and the states, including the Affordable Care Act, says PCMA.

Miltenberger to lead Mountain Health CO-OP
Richard Miltenberger is the new CEO of Mountain Health CO-OP, a nonprofit, consumer-oriented and operated health insurance cooperative that serves about 24,000 members in Idaho and 25,000 members in Montana. Miltenberger brings 30 years of experience in finance and marketing, and has served in senior positions with other health insurers. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of InterWest Health, a regional physician network.
Kristin Gambino
Peerfit, a digital platform that makes it easy for insurance carriers, brokers and employers to offer fitness classes to their clients and employees, has named Jason Parry as its chief strategy officer. Parry has more than 20 years of experience with investment and insurance groups. Before joining Peerfit, Parry was a Principal in Corporate Development and Strategic Investments at insurers GuideWell/Florida Blue.
Zenefits has added Issac Vaughn, a technology, operations, legal and venture expert, to its executive team as senior vice president of Business Operations. Previously, he served as acting CEO, and before that as SVP of business and corporate development, general counsel and corporate secretary. Prior to Ooyala, Vaughn was managing director of SC Investments Consulting, an angel investment and consulting company, and a founding partner of Bennu Venture Group.
Hand-out/Wellness Workdays
Debra Wein, CEO and founder of Wellness Workdays, a provider of corporate wellness programs, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the New England Employee Benefits Council. Wein has served as chair of NEEBC's Wellness Program Committee since 2013. Wein will work with the organization to further its mission to advance knowledge and education about issues in the employee benefits field.
