Status check: Does your job make you happy?

I don’t know about you, but all of these studies that show how disengaged people are in their jobs is making me a little depressed. The latest gloomy stats are from Healthy Companies International, which finds only about one-quarter of Americans (26%) say they find happiness and fulfillment in their job.

Even more disheartening, another 11% feel their job is mostly a drain on their energy and happiness.

Now, normally this is the part where I would encourage you to work harder at engaging employees. But instead, I want to encourage a little bit of Friday afternoon navel-gazing and ask: How engaged are you in your work?

Does your job make you happy and fulfilled? Or is it a drain? Is your work a joy or just a job? If it’s the latter, what do you think it would take to make you feel more positively?

Perhaps therein lies the answer to how you can engage your employees better.
