Employee engagement can be one of the hardest strategies to plan for many benefits professionals. Getting employees to actively take part in a holiday party or quarterly meeting can be tricky. Consultant and blogger Sharlyn Lauby shares some particularly useful ways to make events “Instagrammable,” with the idea of making company events so fun that workers will even post them on social media.

Use your company’s logo

“It’s OK to do a little marketing during an employee event,” she says. Employees engaging through Instagram and Facebook filters will allow your brand to be more recognized by friends of your employees.

Use of color and brightness is a good thing

“Make [your event] fun with bright colors and images,” Lauby shares. Create backdrops for employee selfies along with some old-school photo booths to actively get your employees engaged in the action.

Order photogenic food

Everyone takes pictures of their cats … and food. “Embrace the trend by making food photograph worthy,” she says. Company-logo cupcakes will even kill two birds with one stone.

A photo scavenger hunt

Engagement and physical activities can bring a fun smile to your employees’ faces.

#Share the images

Most importantly, get the photos out there. Of course, some parts of an event may be off limits to photo taking, so make sure everyone knows about that up front. After the event, “allow employees to share in the fun of working for your organization can be a benefit,” Lauby notes. One way, she recommends, is creating a company hashtag for people to search and share afterward … it can also show your company is hip and an exciting place to be.
