New hires and promotions are taking place across the insurance, consultancies, legal and employee benefit brokerage sectors. In the past few months, there have been key appointments inside companies like TIAA, Namely and others.

Pauling promoted to chief diversity and inclusion officer at TIAA

Financial services provider TIAA promoted Corie Pauling to chief diversity and inclusion officer. Pauling will oversee the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy and lead an expanded team which now includes the company’s workforce planning and analytics group. Prior to joining TIAA, Pauling was a litigation partner with the international law firm Littler Mendelson. She also held a position at civil rights law firm Ferguson Stein Chambers. Pauling is the former chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Hagen joins Namely as chief people officer

HR technology company, Namely, appointed Lorna Hagen to chief people officer to lead the company’s people operations team. Hagen joined Namely in November from financial services firm OnDeck where she was responsible for HR and talent management. She also held leadership roles at clothing company LOFT, Dow Jones and publisher HarperCollins.

ArmadaHealth taps Torroella for chief operations officer

Susan Torroella joined ArmadaHealth as chief operations officer. Most recently, Torroella was executive vice president of biometric screening provider Wellness Corporate Solutions where she managed all strategic partnerships, direct clients, program management and operations. Torroella also served as president of UnitedHealthcare Global’s FrontierMEDEX medical assistance services, where she oversaw the delivery of health prevention services and treatment coordination for employers' workforces during international assignments.

Corporate Synergies gives nod to Blemlek for senior consultant position

National insurance and benefits brokerage Corporate Synergies has named Greg Blemlek vice president and senior benefits consultant in the greater Philadelphia area. Blemlek previously served as senior director of business development and marketing at Innovative Benefit Planning. He also was director of sales for the mid-Atlantic region at insurance brokerage Arthur J. Gallagher where he led teams of benefit consultants.

Ferguson joins TaskUs as chief people officer

Customer support solution company TaskUs has selected Mike Ferguson to be the company’s first chief people officer. Prior to joining TaskUs, he was head of people support at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Ferguson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University in Detroit.

McDermott Will & Emery select partners for employee benefits and executive compensation practice group

Theodore M. Becker and Richard Pearl have been hired as partners at McDermott Will & Emery under the law firm’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice group in Chicago. Becker focuses on high-stakes ERISA and employee stock ownership plan litigation. He joins the firm from Drinker Biddle & Reath where he served on the employee benefits and ERISA litigation team.

Pearl has experience representing companies and plan fiduciaries in ERISA litigation and counseling plan sponsors, internal and external fiduciaries, and others on ERISA insurance-procurement, insurance and indemnification issues.

Innovu taps O’Toole for CEO, chief commercial officer role

Data analytics company Innovu has tapped Hugh O’Toole for the role of chief executive officer and chief commercial officer. O’Toole joins the company after serving as senior vice president of MassMutual and recently joined the Innovu board of directors. Innovu’s founding president and CEO, Pat Stewart, will remain as president to lead the company’s partner and client experience, operations and innovation functions.

Gorsline to head Standard Insurance HR department

Standard Insurance Company has promoted Erin Gorsline to head the human resources department. Gorsline joined the Standard in 2008 and is being promoted from her current role as second vice president of business human resources where she oversees the company’s HR business partners and employee relations team. In her new position, Gorsline will also manage the employee benefits and HR strategic, financial and workforce planning teams.

Collective Health adds Boone to board of directors

Web-based health admin platform Collective Health has named Karen Boone to its board of directors. Boone is the former president, chief financial and administrative officer of Restoration Hardware. She led the company through several key financial milestones including an initial public offering and two follow-on public offerings. Boone joins fellow board members, including Mohamad Makhzoumi of NEA, Scott Nolan of Founders Fund and Jeff Immelt, the former chairman and CEO of GE.
