The impact of market disruption

Every employee benefit broker knows what Zenefits is. The question is — how should advisers respond to the HR tech company and other market disruptors?

“Zenefits has become the ‘Z word’ in insurance brokerage,” says Ryan Toner. “They have one model, which simplifies the entire process. Brokers should look to do the same — create one solution and master it.”

Employees are not employees anymore. They need to be looked at as consumers.

Toner, president of BenefitVault, will be part of a panel discussion on the effect of market disruption during EBA’s Workplace Benefits Renaissance. One impact is the way advisers should now view employees, he says.

“Employees are not employees anymore. They need to be looked at as consumers,” Toner says. “Employers are just vehicles to consumers.”
