The shocking riots at the U.S. Capitol this week have been met by condemnation and outrage by corporate America.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek called the violence “an egregious and inexcusable assault on America’s most revered institution and our democracy,” while Google CEO Sundar Pichai called the attack “the antithesis of democracy.”

Protests in Washington on Wednesday turned into what some are calling an act of domestic terror after individuals stormed the capitol building, broke windows and vandalized property, including one protestor who stole mail belonging to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. At least five people — including a capitol police officer — have died as a result of the riot.

The attack came after President Trump spoke in Washington, repeating false claims of election fraud and egging on supporters to march to the Capitol. World leaders including Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain condemned the actions of the rioters and blamed Trump for inciting the violence. A growing list of elected representatives are calling for Trump’s immediate removal from office — despite having less than two weeks left in his first and only term.
