In the wake of the Great Resignation, workplaces have been working hard to boost their retention strategies and create work environments that satisfy their employee base. But there are still a few demands employees want that companies have yet to meet.

Eighty-five percent of employees are unhappy with work, according to a recent poll from management consulting company Gallup. In an effort to get to the bottom of why, online job search platform Lensa analyzed Google search data to research the top demands employees are expecting from their workplaces.

Lensa created their list using existing rankings from LinkedIn and Nasdaq as well as Google Keyword Planner, which they used to find the overall search volume of each term from the past year and the year-on-year change in search volume taken from data between March 2022 and February 2023.

Menopause leave came in first place with a 336% increase in annual searches. Currently, 72% of companies do not have any kind of menopause policy in place, and only 16% of businesses train managers to address menopause at work. In a 2022 survey by healthcare company Biote, four out of every 10 women experienced menopause symptoms that interfered with their work performance or productivity on a weekly basis, and 17% quit a job or considered quitting due to menopause symptoms.

Rounding out the top three most in-demand employee benefits were more comprehensive mental health support and 4-day workweek. As the pandemic left employees struggling with a heightened risk of burnout and  a desire to hold tight to flexible schedules, it's clear that these benefits will remain top of mind for the foreseeable future.
