Hubspot is continuing the crusade against mental health stigma with a mental health benefit from Modern Health.

Hubspot offers software and resources to help other companies’ manage their teams and customers. Now, the organization is taking steps to support the growth and well-being of their 4,500 employees. Since rolling out the benefit in January of this year, more than 30% of Hubspot’s employees have been actively utilizing it and almost half have engaged in one-to-one care with either a coach or therapist.

“Between adjusting to remote work and heartbreaking headlines around the world, we wanted to support employees by offering a program that gave a variety of resources,” Elissa Barrett, vice president of HR at HubSpot, said in a release. ” Modern Health’s platform allows us to provide employees with accessible mental health support, regardless of location, and help us build a culture that normalizes and encourages mental health and well-being.”

The pandemic has had an enormous impact on employee well-being, with mental health dropping 33% since the start of the pandemic, according to a survey by HR services company HiBob. Nearly two-thirds of employees say they have left a job in the past or would like to leave their current job because it is not good for their mental well-being, according to research by Lincoln Financial Group.

Hubspot said the Modern Health benefit appealed to them because of the way the company breaks down mental health issues. Modern Health views mental health on a spectrum from green to red, with green a generally healthy state, while red indicates people are having clinical issues that are heavily impacting their ability to function day-to-day.

In the middle of the spectrum is the yellow zone, where 70% of employees fall, according to Modern Health. Yellow zone employees aren’t necessarily experiencing a clinical need, but may be facing certain stressful life challenges they need help addressing.

Once employees are evaluated, the app will connect them with a therapist or coach who has the expertise to guide them through the struggles they are facing and find proactive solutions.

“Employees need this support not only to help them transition back into an office environment but to also allow them to prioritize their own wellness so they can be their best selves and can do their best work,” Alyson Watson, founder and CEO of Modern Health, said in a release. “We need employers to roll out better [mental health] benefits but also to create a culture and environment where the usage of these benefits is not only encouraged but normalized.”
