For many Americans, it's been a year of layoffs and horrifying grocery bills as the U.S. continues to feel the impact of record inflation. And yet, many states are projected to see job growth in the next decade, hinting at hope for workers.

USAFacts, a nonprofit organization that provides research on the U.S. population, economy and government, ranked which states are projected to see the fastest job growth by 2030. After looking at data from Projections Central, a platform sponsored by the Department of Labor, USAFacts found some surprising states making the list, including Utah, while California didn't rank.

"It's important to note that the state data comes from projections done by the states themselves," says Nate Johnold, marketing manager at USAFacts. "But even with that in mind, there could be an interesting overlap with states that project a large amount of job growth that also have younger populations. Another thing to look at is some states with large, established industries don't project as much growth as states with smaller yet growing industries.
