In addition to providing healthcare benefits, wellness programs can be key to helping workers establish a healthy lifestyle.
KFF's 2024 Employer Health Benefits Survey analyzed responses from 2,142 interviews with non-federal public and private companies to determine if employers are providing wellness benefits.
Based on the findings, large companies with 200 or more workers are more likely to offer wellness benefits, such as programs to help smokers quit, weight loss programs and lifestyle or behavioral coaching.

While the percentage of large companies offering wellness programs has stayed about the same over the last decade, the percentage of small companies offering these programs has fluctuated more. In 2023, 62% of small companies offered a wellness program, while in 2024, 54% provided a wellness program option.
Of the companies offering wellness programs, large companies are also more likely to offer incentives to participate in these programs (46%), compared to small companies (8%).
In addition to wellness programs, large companies may also offer other wellness and health promotion activities and incentives. A majority of large companies offering health benefits (56%) offer health risk assessments to employees.
