If employers only look at wellness from a 9-to-5 point of view, they are missing valuable opportunities to engage employees. Wellness doesnt end at 5 p.m., said one expert at the National Business Coalition on Healths annual conference.
Speaking in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, hubbub vice president of sales and marketing Brian Berchtold told conference goers that when looking at wellness program engagement, employers need to be aware of habits and social effects that can influence behavior.
Hubbub, an online and mobile wellness company, uses social networks, incentives and gamification to engage employees in challenges in the areas of exercise, eating, stress management, socialization and lifestyle changes.

Making use of online tools, employees are challenged to take their wellness programs home: a home cooking challenge or a roll, shake, spin and draw (board games with family and friends) continue employee wellness well beyond the office walls.
Gamification is everywhere, Berchtold says. The problem is were not engaged,
he adds, noting that improved engagement can increase profits and productivity, as well as decrease employee turnover.
