PRO Unlimited platform gives employee benefits to gig workers

Gig and contingent workers have seen a boom in demand due to the pandemic, yet are still not treated equally to their full-time counterparts, especially when it comes to benefits.

Gig workers made up 33% of the workforce in 2020, according to daVinci Payments, a payments firm. The average income for gig workers was $17,445 and 70% of those under 35 do not have access to benefits, according to Prudential.

Workforce management solutions provider PRO Unlimited is looking to change that. PRO has evolved the way employers can utilize its platform to take on the administrative burden when verifying and onboarding employees, and offers a suite of employee benefits including healthcare, paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave, tuition assistance and more.

The solution looks to help businesses acquire talent while better supporting the gig and contingent worker population, according to Kevin Akeroyd, CEO of PRO Unlimited.

“Contingent workers, historically, haven’t gotten some of the goodies that full time workers do,” Akeroyd says. “We give them that comprehensive worker benefits package.”

There is a level of complexity and some risk that goes into organizing the employment of gig and contract workers, Akeroyd says. PRO’s solution uses their enhanced technology so the employer can focus on their business, while also becoming an attractive workplace for gig employees.

PRO works with clients to identify the needs and requirements of their workforce and can tailor the technology to include paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition assistance, along with many additional benefits.

Additionally, gig workers can utilize PRO’s technology to access their pay early. EarlyPay PRO gives gig and contingent workers the opportunity to receive payment before the employer pays PRO Unlimited for their services.

Gig and contingent workers are becoming more commonplace in a post-pandemic world. Employers need to prioritize this population and provide greater stability now and in the future.

“COVID didn't create [the gig economy], but COVID sure as heck did accelerate it,” Akeroyd says. “Given the strategic importance of a contingent workforce, and the risk and businesses would rather not take on, PRO can do all of that.”
