Kevin M. Andrews has spent the last two decades trying to eliminate the disconnect between employers, employees and benefits. And he sees technology as the solution.
“The front-end delivery and the back end-connectivity of employee benefits today is fragmented,” says Andrews, chief technology officer of Atlanta-based employee benefits firm Hodges-Mace. “Technology is rapidly changing the way employees, employers and insurers think about benefit delivery. Over the next 10 years, we will see a consolidation of services, delivered more effectively and efficiently through a single channel and data model. The end user experience is the next competitive battleground.”
Andrews is the recipient of a Dig|Benefits Technology Innovator Award, a program designed to recognize visionaries who are driving technology innovation in the employee benefits space. Winners will be honored at the Dig|Benefits conference May 19-20 in Austin, Texas.
In Andrews’ current role, he’s responsible for the technological advancement of the company’s systems. Before joining Hodges-Mace, he served as president and co-founder of SmartBen, a cloud-based technology company in the benefit administration and exchange market.
Throughout his career, Andrews has introduced industry-leading concepts and has delivered technology designed to empower employees to make smarter benefit decisions. Some of his innovations include predictive benefit modeling, avatar-utilizing artificial intelligence and integrated total compensation statements. He’s also been involved in the launch of animated interactive storyboards, a technique used to educate employees visually about how benefit plans work and how they impact an employee and his family. These storyboards are designed to answer 90% of an employee’s questions in 90 seconds or less.
“Simplification of benefit delivery through technology and service is an art and a science that requires us, as an industry, to adopt and seek more connected solutions,” he says.
