The food service industry is trying to get back on its feet after a turbulent two years. But with restaurants still reeling financially from the pandemic, recruiting remains a significant obstacle.

Restaurant employment was still 1.5 million jobs below pre-pandemic levels in May of 2021 — down about 12%, according to the National Restaurant Association’s summary of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics. In an effort to fill much-needed roles, food delivery service GrubHub is partnering with job search platform Indeed to provide a solution.

For a limited time, Indeed will offer a $300 credit restaurants can use for a sponsored job posting on the platform. The offer is available to restaurants in Chicago, New York, Boston and Philadelphia that sign up for Grubhub.

Food delivery platforms such as GrubHub played a major role in keeping restaurants afloat. In a landscape where restaurants were $240 billion below its 2020 pre-pandemic forecasts, GrubHub accounted for nearly $10 billion in restaurant sales last year, according to the press release. The platform made it possible for many businesses to continue to receive orders, even when indoor dining was impacted by COVID-19.

Leveraging Indeed’s recruiting platform, restaurants will be able to generate additional business, while hiring online. Restaurant owners that post jobs to Indeed will also gain access to a variety of hiring tools, such as job description templates, screening and skills assessments and Indeed’s video interviewing platform.

“We’ve been hyper-focused on supporting restaurants over the last two years by driving more order volume and providing the tools to bring more of their business online,” Hollis Woodlock, director of restaurant marketing at Grubhub, said in the release “This partnership with Indeed is one more way we’re supporting restaurants in their recovery and beyond. We’re taking what we hear from them and turning it into meaningful action that has a direct impact on their operations.”
