As chief technology officer of Truveris, Bertrand Janin oversees a team of 35 engineers, product designers and analysts who create and maintain the healthcare startup’s six flagship products that service the pharmacy value chain.
That’s one reason Janin is the recipient of a Dig|Benefits Technology Innovator Award, a program designed to recognize visionaries who are driving technology innovation in the employee benefits space. Winners will be honored at the Dig|Benefits conference May 19-20 in Austin, Tex.
Among his accomplishments, Janin created OneRx — a free prescription benefits and savings app that offers employees drug coverage information at the point of care regardless of the network or plan. It also provides out-of-pocket drug prices based on location, so that employees can compare prices at local pharmacies and obtain drug coupons and drug-specific co-pay information. More than 100 plans are promoting the app to their 250,000 members during open enrollment.
“We all recognize that the health and benefits industry is at an inflection point,” Janin says. “Given recent advancements in encryption technology, big data and mobile, we can truly put the needs of employers and employees first — and technology is the underpinning that enables us to meet their needs.”
And further down the road, he adds, technology will change benefits even more. “The future is in customization — gone are the days of one-size-fits-all benefits offerings,” he says. “Privacy and cryptography will also take on larger roles in the benefits world as data is increasingly used to power new solutions. Technological advancements will make it easier to comply with evolving privacy standards and regulations so that we can continue to develop leading-edge products.”
