A new study in Health Affairs examines insurance coverage disruptions that could occur under the health law as individuals or families move between Medicaid coverage and subsidized coverage from private insurers that’s purchased through online state insurance exchanges.
Eligibility for Medicaid and premium-subsidized private coverage can often change as beneficiaries’ income rises and falls.
The study authors estimate that within six months, "more than 35% of all adults with family incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level will experience a shift in eligibility from Medicaid to an insurance exchange, or the reverse; within a year, 50%, or 28 million, will."
The study findings are published in the article
